The central government will support Guizhou – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – in its push forwards with urban revitalization and new-type urbanization, according to a recent document issued by the State Council, China's cabinet.

The New-type Urbanization Plan or NUP launched in March 2014 is a national plan proposed for the development of a science-driven and reasoned urban development model by 2020. It is a top-down effort to utilize urbanization as an engine for economic growth in the near future.

"The document has shed light on our future work," said Gao Yang, Party secretary of Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning.

Gao promised to utilize scientific methods to optimize spatial layouts of Guiyang city and the nearby Guian New Area to coordinate three spaces for production, living and eco-protection.

The bureau is expected to prioritize land planning that concerns regional environmental and economic safety, crop security, cultural heritage and people's lives in order to sustain a balanced relationship between people and nature.

Better use of land is seen as enhancing the transformation of urban development approaches.
