Many city renewal projects and renovation programs for shanty towns and old residential areas in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – are understood to have made new progress, involving a total investment of more than 5 billion yuan ($744 million) in April this year.

Now plans are for city renewal projects to be carried out in Shizi Street in Huaxi district, in the Gongda area in Baiyun district, the Huayang area in the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, and in other parts of Guiyang.

The shanty town and old residential area renovation programs are also going on in places including Xifeng county, Yunyan and Baiyun districts, and Qingzhen city.

The Shizi Street renewal project is located in the Yangguang sub-district of Huaxi district, with existing buildings occupying a total floor space of 299,000 square meters. These buildings will be rebuilt soon, and some will be expropriated by the government.

The Baiyun district government recently released the findings of a feasibility study on its old residential area renovation programs, involving 115 residential buildings and 4,445 households in total.
