Gao Yang, director of Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning, launched a research effort into illegal mining activity in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Oct 11.
The director was briefed on the work report delivered by officials of the county's natural resources and planning bureau, and carried out a field survey on a local mine restoration site.
The county was urged to strengthen the accountability of governments at all levels, enhance coordination among departments in charge of law enforcement, industry and information technology, transportation, emergency response, power supply and natural resources.
Gao also suggested the use of radios, TV programs, and other new media to inform people of the serious consequences that illegal mining brings.
