On Feb 28, a special meeting on 2024 ecological restoration work was held in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, with He Moujun, director of the Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning, presiding over the session.

The meeting focused on analyzing the current state of ecological restoration work and outlining key tasks for 2024, aiming to comprehensively improve the quality and effectiveness of ecological protection and restoration efforts in the city.

He emphasized the need to make more ecological restoration efforts by accurately assessing the current situation of mine restoration and governance, as well as establishing work ledgers. In addition, there was a call for social capital to be put toward ecological restoration and to expand ecological restoration methods.

Furthermore, he said it is imperative to strengthen coordination among departments in charge of ecology, forestry, water resources, and emergency management to ensure more effective ecological restoration in terms of technology, standards, and policy.

A comprehensive supervision platform for ecological restoration should also be established, he said, along with stricter monitoring and evaluation for the governance effectiveness of restoration projects.

In 2024, Guiyang will improve the supervision and inspection system to identify the main responsibilities for the management of mines, and will seek to make substantial progress in addressing the existing issues in ecological restoration work via self-examination and self-correction.
