The annual farmland protection work conference for Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area took place on March 8.
The meeting, aimed at analyzing and assessing the current work situation and arranging the key tasks for 2024, was chaired by He Moujun, director of the Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning.
He acknowledged the efforts and achievements made by various regions in the 2023 farmland protection target assessment campaign. He also emphasized that the task of farmland protection has not diminished, but has become more arduous.
The contradiction between development and protection remains prominent, and issues such as insufficient farmland resource reserves, ineffective protection methods, and incomplete farmland protection mechanisms still exist.
He emphasized that in 2024, it is necessary to clearly identify available farmland resources and increase the total amount of arable land. The focus should be on the quality of permanent farmland and the restoration quality of arable land. Another goal is to promote the construction of the additional arable land and high-standard farmland.
At the meeting, it was mentioned that efforts will be made to use high-resolution satellite remote sensing images, drones, and other means to improve the timeliness and precision of farmland monitoring and supervision.
