Guiyang is seeking to protect rare and endangered wild plants, focusing on the rescue and conservation of rare and endangered species such as the ormosia henryi and the Guizhou hickory. The first in-situ conservation site for rare and endangered wild plants in the city was recently established.

The Guiyang Wildlife and Plant Protection Station recently applied for project construction for the ormosia henryi and Guizhou hickory, conducting resource surveys and establishing initial archives in Mainai village of the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone and Tangbian village of Qingzhen.

By delineating the protection range of the natural habitats, setting up boundary markers, boundary stakes, fences, remote monitoring systems, and warning signs, and simultaneously implementing habitat restoration, pruning and rejuvenation, seed collection, and patrol management, these rare and endangered wild plants are being effectively protected.

The ormosia henryi is a second-level nationally-protected wild plant, known for its precious timber. It has a limited distribution in Guiyang, with very few resources and harsh habitat conditions. Guizhou hickory has highly-nutritious kernels, but due to its narrow distribution area and difficulties in natural regeneration, it has been under second-level national protection since 2021.
