As of June this year, the area of forest land used for the forestry derived economy in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, stands at 1.56 million mu (104,000 hectares), a year-on-year increase of 14.59 percent.

Guiyang boasts a total forest land area of 6.25 million mu, with a forest coverage rate consistently above 55.3 percent. Building upon this foundation, the city is focusing on expanding industrial scale, optimizing industrial layout, and improving basic facilities in order to promote the development of the forestry derived economy.

The total output value of Guiyang's forestry derived economy industrial chain has reached 6.36 billion yuan ($933.78 million), a year-on-year increase of 5.72 percent, while the area of underwood planting has reached 109,600 mu, a year-on-year increase of 30.78 percent.

Leveraging its abundant forest resources and mild climate advantages, Guiyang has achieved both ecological and economic benefits. The city has planted Chinese herbal medicines such as huangbo, huangjing, and tianma, as well as edible fungi, which has increased the income of 2,255 village households and paid out a total of 25.08 million yuan in labor wages.
