Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has attracted a large wave of tourists looking to escape the summer heat due to its healthy environment and pleasant climate.

In the first half of this year, Guiyang ranked third among cities in China for environmental air quality. It ranked first in both air quality improvement and PM2.5 concentration improvement among 168 key cities from January to June. In 2023, it was the only provincial capital city to be recognized as a national demonstration zone for ecological civilization construction.

In addition, Guiyang took the provincial lead by establishing a green economic development index system, with its green economy accounting for 49 percent of its total economy. It also added 14 national-level green factories, two national-level green industrial parks and one national-level green supply chain management enterprise. The pilot project for rooftop distributed photovoltaic development in Kaiyang county has been completed. Over 1,500 new charging and swapping facilities were installed and all buses utilized new and clean energy.

Guiyang has also made full use of its peripheral urban areas, transforming idle spaces by planting greenery, adding public fitness facilities and constructing various parks. Each park represents a small ecological world with its own unique water bodies, wetlands, mountains, river channels, flora and fauna.
