The Global Big Data Exchange, China's first data trading platform, has reported significant achievements. As of Aug 21, the exchange had onboarded 885 data vendors and 206 data intermediaries, with a total of 2,194 products. It had completed 2,387 transactions, amounting to over 5.25 billion yuan ($772 million).
Since its establishment in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in 2015, the exchange has focused on building a secure and trustworthy data circulation infrastructure and fostering market entities such as data vendors and intermediaries.
This effort has played a pivotal role in Guiyang and Gui'an's digital transformation, propelling the region from its initial development to becoming a leading hub in the digital economy.
Guiyang and Gui'an have channeled more resources into three key areas in recent years: computational power, empowerment, and industry. They aim to seize leadership in intelligent computing, industry-specific large model cultivation, and data training.
In 2023, the added value of the digital economy in Guiyang and Gui'an accounted for 52.9 percent of the GDP, establishing it as a critical driver of high-quality local economic development. The area has also been designated one of the top 10 national data center clusters, with a computing power scale exceeding 38 EFLOPS. Over 90 percent of this computing power is dedicated to intelligent computing, making it one of the most vital regions in China for intelligent computing capabilities.
Guizhou China Data Pay Network Technology Co has integrated data resources from more than 50 government departments and central enterprises and has implemented nearly 300 application scenarios, showcasing the area's technological advancements. These innovations include facial recognition payment systems in public transportation and the deployment of 39 AI general practitioners in 40 primary healthcare institutions, providing consultations and medical services to over 380,000 people.
Guiyang and Gui'an also launched an initiative in 2022 to boost the software and IT services industry, which generated revenues exceeding 80 billion yuan in 2023 and grew by 20.6 percent.
