Surveying and mapping talents compete in Guiyang

A total of 156 skilled practitioners competed in Guiyang at the 2025 Guizhou Provincial Surveying and Geographic Information Vocational Skills Competition, held from Nov 19 to 21.

Jointly organized by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Natural Resources and other provincial agencies, the event was hosted by Guizhou Communications Polytechnic University and recognized as a top-tier provincial competition.

Thirty-nine teams from nine regional delegations, Grade-A surveying institutions, and universities gathered to showcase their expertise. The competition focused on core technologies and emerging applications in the field, combining hands-on skills assessments with theoretical examinations. Events included UAV data acquisition, 3D modeling, and cartographic production, highlighting the industry's evolving needs and guiding trends in industrial advancement.

Guizhou Provincial First Institute of Surveying and Mapping and Guizhou Qianmei Mapping Engineering Institute earned second-place team awards, while Guiyang Institute of Surveying and Mapping and PowerChina Guiyang Engineering Co received third-place honors.

The youngest participant, only 19 years old, said the competition boosted his confidence, noting that the professional skills he is learning can be applied directly to urban planning, transportation development, and ecological protection.

According to provincial natural resources officials, surveying and geographic information form a foundational and strategic national resource, supporting major initiatives including new infrastructure development, urban planning, rural vitalization, and ecological conservation.
