On Dec 4, the national pilot project for new-type basic mapping in Guiyang officially passed national acceptance. The inspection meeting was held in Guiyang, with Chen Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, serving as the expert team leader. Leaders from the Ministry of Natural Resources, as well as provincial and municipal natural resources authorities, attended the event.

During the review, experts conducted a comprehensive assessment through project reports, results demonstrations, document review, and on-site questioning. The expert panel unanimously approved the pilot project.

The meeting highlighted Guiyang's fruitful pilot achievements. The pilot fully accomplished its construction goals, with distinctive features that utilized Guiyang's karst topography. Expanded classifications for surface and underground karst features contributed to a new mapping production technology system tailored to Southwest China's mountainous regions.

The pilot also demonstrated notable practical applications, creating strong real-world examples of natural resource management, urban governance, land spatial planning, cultural tourism, and urban renewal, and showing strong potential for further use.

The meeting emphasized that Guiyang, as a national pilot city, should continue integrating and expanding the application of its results. Efforts will focus on supporting national strategies through spatial information, strengthening key spatial data elements, and providing reliable support for land planning, major engineering projects, and resource security.
