Ahead of China's 18th National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day on May 12, Guiyang launched a series of public outreach activities focused on geological disaster prevention and emergency response. The campaign ran throughout Disaster Prevention and Reduction Publicity Week, from May 11 to 17.

The city's natural resources and planning departments organized a wide range of science education and awareness activities, both online and offline, to improve public understanding of geological hazards and strengthen emergency preparedness at the community level.

A key event was held at Quanhu Park in Baiyun district by the Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning. The activity featured themed exhibition boards, science education materials, and interactive consultations covering landslides, collapses, debris flows, and other common geological hazards. Residents learned practical skills including hazard identification, evacuation procedures, and self-rescue methods for emergencies.

The campaign also expanded its digital outreach efforts. Since March, the city has coordinated the production of geological disaster prevention videos distributed through official websites, social media accounts, and short-video platforms.

At the grassroots level, district and county natural resources departments carried out community lectures, village visits, and face-to-face awareness sessions in high-risk areas. Public education efforts focused on explaining warning signals, evacuation routes, and emergency shelter procedures for geological disasters.

According to official data, the city has organized 197 disaster prevention publicity and training events so far, reaching more than 7,300 people and distributing over 13,000 educational materials. Authorities said the campaign helped strengthen public awareness of disaster prevention and build a stronger community-based safety network across Guiyang.
