Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning held a meeting on May 8 to advance the inspection, closure, and remediation of abandoned mine tunnels and strengthen the crackdown on illegal mining activities.
The meeting emphasized a "zero-tolerance" approach to illegal mining and called for stronger efforts to prevent safety accidents and uphold workplace safety standards.
After hearing reports from the municipal law enforcement team, as well as Xiuwen county, Kaiyang county, and Qingzhen, He Moujun, director of the bureau, said that phased progress had been achieved through coordinated efforts at the municipal and county levels.
The meeting called for the establishment of a standardized inspection mechanism and a comprehensive citywide database of abandoned mine tunnels. Responsibilities related to personnel, equipment, and supervision will be clarified to ensure no blind spots remain in inspections and remediation work.
Officials emphasized the integration of personnel and technology, including a four-level responsibility system covering municipal, county, township, and village levels. Technologies such as drone inspections, satellite remote sensing, and video surveillance will be used to improve regulatory efficiency.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of joint law enforcement targeting the entire illegal mining chain, including extraction, storage, transportation, and sales, through closer coordination among emergency management, industry and information technology, and public security departments.
