Guizhou opens applications for ministry-level research projects

Guizhou province has opened applications for research projects to two ministry-level scientific innovation platforms, aiming to strengthen research collaboration and address key technological challenges in natural resources management, ecological protection, and energy development.

The initiative follows the Ministry of Natural Resources' science and technology innovation agenda and is designed to make greater use of ministry-level research platforms through open cooperation, resource sharing, and scientific leadership. It seeks to bring together domestic and international research teams to advance innovation in areas including karst ecosystem protection, efficient land use, and the exploration and development of unconventional natural gas resources in complex geological settings.

One of the platforms is the key laboratory for the evaluation and development of unconventional natural gas in complex structural areas under the Ministry of Natural Resources. The laboratory is the first ministry-level oil and gas research laboratory in Guizhou and is jointly supported by several academic and industry partners. Its research focuses on improving the understanding of unconventional natural gas accumulation and development in geologically complex regions and advancing technologies for resource assessment and extraction.

The second platform is the Guizhou karst mountain land ecology and land use field scientific observation and research station, the province's first ministry-level field observation station. The station researches land-use and land-cover change, ecological quality in karst mountain regions, and the interactions among spatial development, population, economic activity, and ecological systems.

The program is expected to enhance the capacity for scientific innovation and support sustainable development in the natural resources sector.
