Guizhou builds smarter remote sensing network

The Guizhou Department of Natural Resources has strengthened the province's unified remote sensing imagery management system to improve data sharing, eliminate duplicate purchases and production, and enhance the efficient use of spatial data.

Since the Guizhou Remote Sensing Imagery Management Measures took effect in 2019, the province has established a comprehensive framework covering data acquisition, management, sharing, and application.

By the end of 2025, the program had been in operation for six years, following a model of simultaneous data acquisition, processing, and application. Remote sensing imagery now supports more than 10 sectors, including natural resources, ecology and environment, water resources, agriculture, forestry, transportation, emergency management, auditing, development and reform, and justice. The project has generated more than 1.5 billion yuan ($210 million) in direct economic benefits and over 5 billion yuan in indirect benefits.

The unified imagery database supports major national projects, land management, disaster prevention, ecological conservation, and rural vitalization. High-resolution aerial imagery has also been provided for model villages, helping improve village planning, farmland protection, and ecological restoration.

Guizhou has also established an integrated cloud-based service platform, enabling government agencies and the public to access standardized imagery resources. Today, annual sub-meter satellite imagery and quarterly 2-meter imagery provide reliable spatial data to support digital governance and high-quality development across the province.
