The Guizhou Department of Natural Resources held the fourth 2026 session of its monthly natural resources forum on Aug 24, focusing on developing and implementing standards in the natural resources sector.
Experts delivered presentations on industry standard development practices, fundamentals of standards drafting, karst cave surveys, and standardization system development. Drawing on professional expertise and practical cases, they shared recommendations for improving the quality and efficiency of natural resources standardization across the province.
Guizhou's natural resources standardization efforts are still in the early stages, facing challenges such as a lack of effective standards, slow progress on certain projects, and gaps in critical areas. The meeting emphasized the need to focus more on both developing and applying standards, ensuring standardization is integrated into natural resources surveys, assessments, planning, regulation, conservation, restoration, and monitoring activities.
The province will strengthen top-level planning and prioritize standards in areas closely linked to the "intensive and refined mineral resources development" strategy and the development of six major industrial clusters. Key areas include farmland protection, digital geological exploration, intelligent prospecting, green mines, geological disaster prevention, ecological conservation and restoration, and surveying and geographic information.
The meeting also called for stronger professional teams and greater support from the natural resources standardization committee.
