Guizhou and neighboring regions expand BeiDou cooperation

Guizhou and five neighboring regions have strengthened cooperation on high-precision BeiDou positioning services by sharing resources from satellite navigation reference stations.

A signing ceremony was held in Guiyang on Aug 27, with Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, Sichuan, and Chongqing agreeing to share resources from reference stations located near their administrative borders.

BeiDou, China's satellite navigation system, provides the foundation for high-precision positioning, while Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) networks serve as key infrastructure for delivering precise spatial and temporal services. Previously, reference stations in different regions operated independently, resulting in gaps in coverage, service blind spots, and inconsistent standards in some border areas.

The new cooperation will enable two-way sharing and mutual recognition of reference station data, helping provide more continuous and stable high-precision BeiDou services for cross-regional projects, emergency response, and regional coordination.

The six regions also plan to jointly develop large-scale application scenarios, strengthen technical cooperation, and improve professional talent development. The initiative is expected to support the construction of a nationwide BeiDou reference station network and promote wider application of BeiDou technologies.

At the ceremony, the Guizhou Surveying and Mapping Institute and relevant institutions signed an agreement on sharing satellite navigation positioning reference station resources.
